Assessment Process
The Process
We structure our assessments into two appointments. The first appointment is a 1-hour initial interview with a Licensed Psychologist. This appointment will focus on obtaining necessary background information and identifying presenting problems. The second appointment is a 3-4 hour appointment that will focus on the assessment process.
During the assessment process, we will work closely with you to identify the primary people in your or your child’s life to consult with. Collaboration and bringing collateral information together with you is a central theme of our assessment process.
If you are a parent or guardian of a child that is under 18 years old, we ask that you attend the first appointment alone so that the psychologist can gain relevant developmental history about your child. During the second appointment, you will also attend with your child so that you can complete psychological surveys about your child.
If you are an adult client, we invite you to bring a parent, relative, partner, or close friend with you to your second appointment so that they can participate in your assessment process by completing rating-scale surveys and doing a brief interview. And if they aren’t able to attend, we can reach out to them after your appointment.
So you can best understand your assessment results, we will schedule a follow-up appointment with you 2-4 weeks after your assessment. During this session, we will go over your results, talk about the diagnosis – if there is one, provide you a comprehensive assessment report, and discuss a plan going forward that encompasses all relevant areas, including home, therapy, school or work.
