Dr. Rob Durr

Rob Durr, Ph.D. is the Principal Owner of Carolina Psychological Assessment Center (CPAC). Dr. Durr is a Licensed Psychologist (LP) and Health Service Provider (HSP) based in Asheville, North Carolina who brings over 15 years experience in delivering evidence-based psychological services.

He brings a unique combination of training and experience in both Clinical and Business Psychology to leadership at the CPAC.

Dr. Durr specializes in Psychological Assessment for children 6-years-old up through adulthood. He has conducted thousands of full psychological evaluations and received specialized training in evidence-based psychological assessment. Dr. Durr developed a Leadership Assessment for his dissertation in graduate school at the University of Denver and specialized in psychometrics, the statistics underlying scale development. Through a passion for social and emotional intelligence, he slowly grew passionate about Autism assessment and that is now a primary specialization in his practice. He earned a Ph.D. in the APA-Accredited Counseling Psychology program at the University of Denver and then completed an APA-Accredited Pre-Doctoral Internship and Postdoctoral Fellowship at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL.

Dr. Durr has extensive experience working with executives, teams, and organizations on work force development initiatives. He has delivered leadership trainings and keynote presentations to various organizations in multiple industries. Dr. Durr currently specializes in Executive Coaching and Psychological Assessment in the hiring, training, and development of leaders. He also continues to serve as Adjunct Faculty for both Northwestern University and University of the Pacific where he teaches a course called, “Leading in the Law”, which is a leadership course based in emotional intelligence and mindfulness. Dr. Durr is a trusted advisor to leaders in various fields. He currently provides ongoing Executive Coaching and Counseling services for C-Suite leaders in health care and law.

Pertinent History

Prior to starting Roots Psychology, PLLC, Dr. Durr was a Psychologist at Northwestern University in the Health Center and was the “Law School’s Psychologist” providing tailored clinical mental health, liaison/consultation, and outreach education services to address the stressors inherent in legal education. He also worked closely with the Schools of Engineering, Medicine, and Law to introduce new personal development courses on mindfulness, wellbeing, and emotional intelligence. Dr. Durr has taught multiple undergraduate and graduate-level courses at Northwestern University over the past six years.

Dr. Durr completed an APA-Accredited Pre-Doctoral Internship and a Post-Doctoral Fellowship at Northwestern University’s Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) prior to staying on as a Staff Psychologist. He is a member of the American Psychological Association (APA) and affiliate of Division 17, Society of Counseling Psychology, and Division 13, Society of Consulting Psychology, and he is the Co-Chair of the Organizational Counseling Psychology Special Interest Group (SIG), a group of the Society of Counseling Psychology. Before Northwestern, Dr. Durr provided both clinical and business consulting services for the state of Colorado, a Denver-based international business psychology firm, the National Center for Intermodal Transportation (NCIT), Job Corps, and the University of Denver, where he earned a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology. He also completed a psychological assessment practicum at a Denver private practice with a leader inn Forensic Assessment. He also holds a Master of Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Arizona State University and a B.A. in both Psychology and Sociology from Southern Illinois University.

Dr. Durr and his wife Lauren have three daughters and live in Asheville, North Carolina. He spends his free time in nature and soaking up the expansive arts and music scene in the blue ridge mountains.
